Zen in a Mountain Snowstorm
Brian and Anne O’Neil’s primary concern is for their safety when they find themselves caught in an intense blizzard on an Idaho mountain road en route to visit friends. The couple decides to return to the nearest town in order to wait out the storm, but the first house they come across offers so much more.
When Willy Piggmann sees the two strangers at his door asking to use his phone, he immediately invites them in for the night. Joining the group are Willy’s sister, Milly, her husband, Nate, and Nate’s sister, Paulie. Together, the six adults represent a diverse set of occupations and backgrounds. However, for one magical night, their varied interests resonated as they pursued a series of conversations about everything from ecology to the metaphysical world.
Through his characters and their conversation, author Philip I. Moynihan tackles a number of important topics relevant to society today.
As the group looks toward the future of medicine, microelectronics, and more, Moynihan demonstrates how different disciplines add new facets to the discussion.
Zen in a Mountain Snowstorm will broaden your mind about the world around you and help you realize the amazing contributions you too can make to the conversation.

If you were stranded in a severe snowstorm and taken in by a friendly homeowner just before a dinner party, what sorts of conversations would you welcome? This book reflects the author’s ”wish list,” an intelligent, articulate group of scientists whose careers inform their discussions. The book is a powerful rallying call to anyone worried about climate change, technology and reproductive freedoms! Extremely well-researched, it introduces these and other concepts in terms easily understood by the serious reader. (It’s probably not for a more casual reader, which is why I gave it just four stars.) There are real gems included here, and if science is fascinating to you…BUY THIS BOOK!

The Author
Philip Moynihan, PhD, has always enjoyed writing. Had he not chosen a career in aerospace engineering, he likely could have fared moderately well as a journalist. This interest remained honed throughout his forty-five years as an aerospace engineer, including his thirty-eight years at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, all of which involved an extensive amount of writing in the form of drafting countless reports, proposals, and everyday correspondence. While writing may often be seen as a bane to many engineers, to him it came naturally.
His writing didn’t stop when he retired. As one with a natural curiosity of the world around him and of the universe in general, as a post-retirement hobby he writes essays on widely varied subjects that pique his interest.
